The Myth: “AI Will Fix Everything”
Many leaders secretly believe a version of this:
“Once we plug in AI, it’ll clean up our processes, fix our bottlenecks, and get everyone aligned.”
It sounds reasonable.
But the reality in 2025 looks very different.
Most organizations claim they're “using AI,” yet they’re stuck in:
- Endless pilots
- Scattered experiments
- Tool overload
- Zero measurable ROI
It’s not because AI doesn't work.
It’s because the foundation it sits on is shaky.
The Pattern: Automating Chaos = More Chaos
From what I'm seeing across teams, the pattern repeats itself:
1. AI gets layered on top of broken operations
Instead of efficiency, companies end up with automated mayhem.
2. Leaders launch massive “AI transformation” projects
Big budgets. Huge promises. Zero clarity.
The result: momentum dies before anything meaningful ships.
3. Frontline employees are asked to adopt tools they had no voice in
They fear being replaced.
They weren’t trained.
They don’t know what “success” looks like.
4. Governance and SOPs don’t exist
Every use case becomes a one-off experiment, leading to:
- inconsistent outputs
- compliance blind spots
- unchecked model drift
What Actually Works in 2025
If you want real ROI from AI — especially in service or operational businesses — the playbook is very different.
1. Fix the process before you automate anything
AI amplifies what already exists.
- Clean process → faster, better, higher-quality execution
- Broken process → expensive chaos at scale
2. Start small: launch narrow, high-value pilots
Not moonshots.
Not multi-year transformation fantasies.
Think:
- A 5-minute task that happens 200× per week
- A painful bottleneck that frustrates your team
- A repeatable workflow with clear inputs/outputs
3. Build governance and feedback loops from day one
Not after something goes wrong.
This includes:
- Decision ownership
- Data handling guidelines
- Quality checks
- Improvement cadence
4. Use AI to elevate humans — not sideline them
AI performs best when it augments skilled people:
- Faster
- More consistent
- Fewer mistakes
- More time for deep work or customer experience
A Better Way to Think About AI
AI isn’t a magic bullet.
It’s an amplifier.
If your foundation is strong, AI can transform:
- Throughput
- Output quality
- Operational speed
- Customer experience
If it’s not?
AI will simply help you go off the rails faster.
A Quick Sanity Check
If you're wrestling with where AI fits in your operations and want a grounded, non-hyped conversation, I’m happy to help.
No pitch.
No jargon.
Just clarity from someone who’s seen this play out across multiple industries.
